The moral of my experience today at work is that people are stupid. Really stupid. Stupider than I ever expect them to be.

Here is a sample conversation with two customers:

"Hi, do you have hats for newborns?"

"No. We shipped all of our winter stuff out last week. We have spring clothing in now."

"Okay, so ... do you have them for toddlers?"

"No. We shipped all of our winter stuff out last week. We have spring clothing in now."

(Customer two who has been observing this entire conversation now interupts)

"Well, do you have some mittens I could buy?"

"No. We shipped all of our winter stuff out last week. We have spring clothing in now."

"Well, now. What kind of policy is that? It's -8 degrees out there. My kids need a hat!"

(Melissa clenches her teeth and thinks to herself "then buy the damn hat in OCTOBER when it starts getting cold. Or December. Or any time before NOW.")

"I'm sorry ma'am. I really have no control over what's in stock. I can put you in touch with customer service, and you can lodge a complaint with them."

"Well, no. It's just that there should be HATS. That's all."

"Thank you. Have a nice day, ladies."

Now repeat this scene every 3 minutes. Welcome to Gap Kids/Baby Gap on Newbury!

We also had a plethera of Asian tourists ... who constantly insisted that we would have things in colours we don't have ... it was good times.

Stay tuned for more updates.
