14 February 2003 - 9:03 a.m. Normally, I do not like Valentine's Day at all. I think having a day set aside to tell someone you love them is ridiculous (admittedly - Valentine's Day is not as ridiculous as Sweetest Day ... and I am a fan of the cardboard Valentines and conversation hearts ... anyhow). Regardless, today I am actually fairly pro-Valentine's Day. And I completely blame this man on the T last night. I was coming home from working at Gap Kids, fairly flying as it was because I had gotten out two hours early. I got on the T and noticed that there was a man with two dozen beautiful red roses. I was completely ready to gag as he told me they were for his girlfriend. Then he said, "She thinks I'm going to propose tomorrow." My internal monologue at this point went something like, "O, dear LORD! A Valentine's Day proposal is only the most cliche ridiculous ... " I actually said, "Are you going to?" Then, he said, "Nope. I'm going to tonight. I don't want her to think I need Valentine's Day to tell her I love her and want to spend the rest of my life with her. I want that every day." I think I smiled for the rest of the night. He completely restored my faith in human beings, specifically boy human beings. ::sigh:: So, there's my happy Valentine's story. I hope you all have a wonderful pink-filled day ...
