25 April 2002 - 5:14 p.m. Today, being incredibly bored by this crazy film about Bach in music history featuring German construction workers in tank tops and shorts and a crazy man hitch-hiking, I decided to make a list, not in any particular order, of things that make me smile ... or that have made me smile in recent days. - The word "Frave." I particularly enjoy it in type. It is such a silly looking word. I find it hysterical (for those of you who are non-Boston kids, Frave is what Ellen and I call each other ... it is short of Fravrite, which is from Favourite). - Music theory. I know this is a dorky thing ... but I am ALWAYS happy in that class. Along a similar line ... - Dr. Amlin. He is possibly the best professor in the history of the entire universe. I adore him and all of his dorky little music jokes. YAY for good music dorks. - The Bach Cello Suites. Any cellist should be ecstatic to have these in their repetoire ... SO much better than the violin sonatas and partitas. I am jealous. - Steve Yzerman. I have taken to listening to the Red Wings games online ... 'tis a bad habit, indeed, but it reminds me of how much I adore the Red Wings. Also, they've won every game I've listened to so far this series! (4-0 tonight kids!) - Boston Sports Fans. Yes, I want to be a fat, drunken Boston man screaming at a Red Sox game. It may not be the most realistic goal, but the sports fans here are ridiculous. - Formal Dresses. So, I'm really a little kid at heart. I might as well still be 9 ... I adore my formal dresses. The two that are hanging in my closet get eyed every morning, as I try to think of some legitimate way to wear them in the near future. It's not going to happen so much. - Katie's writing. Geez, this girl makes me smile with a paragraph. She's great! - Interlochen, Killington, & Soesterberg ... It is strange how much I adore the kids from KMF and Soesterberg still. Summer music festivals are bizarre, but definitely amusing. - Making up words with Frave ... Actually, I want to put linguistics in here, but I feel it shall be too dorky. 'Tis also a bit obvious ... anyone who knows me knows that music and linguistics are probably at the top of my little list. - Baking with Bubbles. I think we literally laughed for 3 hours last night while we were baking. Good times, indeed. I only messed up once too! That is good for Melissa The One Who Can't Cook Baese. - Mon Cheri ... This has to be said in an obnoxious French accent. It used to make me cringe because the Slow Kids would harass me about it to no end. Basically, Deuce had these chocolates called "mon cheri" and I would NOT eat them. I was not hungry for chocolate. They proceded to pretend the chocolate was talking to me in an obnoxious French accent ... for 40 minutes. "My name is Mon Cheri. Eat me. I am deeeelicious ... full of fine haaaaaaazelnut creme!" They still do it to be obnoxious ... now it's fairly endearing. - Pink Sweaters and pigtails. As I stated before, I am really just a little kid. I have re-discovered my love for pink ... and the only thing my hair wants to do lately is be in pigtails or braided pigtails. It is fine with me. I look in the mirror and smile a lot seeing myself being a little kid. - Flying into Boston and seeing the skyline. As much as I love going home, it's wonderful when I'm flying back to Boston ... and I can see the skyline. The ACTUAL part of this that makes me smile is the cab on the way to my house. Then I really smile. - Singing along to my playlists on my computer. My poor roommates. I sing along so much, there is really no point in my using headphones. - Select Disney Movies (The Llama Movie, Beauty and the Beast, etc.) Again with the five-year old theme. They make me giggle ... what can I say. - The Princess Bride ... and other Christopher Guest joy. I've loved The Princess Bride since I was a little shishin, but Slow Kids helped me discover the other joy that Christopher Guest has brought to the world. - Happy little kids, including my kids at work, my babysitting, and Madelyn. I am actually REALLY going to miss having the babysitting job I had last year. Luke and Lauren were great. - The person Frave. I just cannot gush enough about how much I absolutely adore Ellen Adair. I can't wait 'til she's my roommate again. - The Brahms Horn Trio. Yeah. It's great. I love it. If I could I would just play it all day long. - The Dead Ant Dance and boys from New Zealand. This is related to Brahms, believe it or not. Our pianist Greg is from New Zealand ... and he likes to drink a lot. He came to rehearsals REALLY hung over a lot. He was great, though. One day he was demonstrating a dance he does when he's really drunk. It involves lying on his back in the middle of the road and waving his legs and arms in the air. He calls it the "Dead Ant Dance." - Michael Ehrie and his sweater vests. As Jess put it, not only are the sweater vests Classic Michael Ehrie clothing, they also take the barber shop effect out of the pink striped shirt. - Ella Fitzgerald singing Gershwin. My favourite jazz composer and my favourite jazz singer ... it doesn't get much better than that! - The Wild Shishin Dance of Joy and the "Mia Frave" Dance. These are the absurd dances that get Ellen and I strange looks. But what Frave/Frave-Lite Interaction doesn't garner strange looks?? - *mwahmwah* We are French/Nous sommes françaises. This is another one of those bizarre Ellen/Mel things. It has become the standard farewell gesture. - Bizarro Deuce ... So, now he has a real name, too. Aaron's a good kid ... and we have a great story about how we became friends. - FLOOR CAKES. The delicious cupcakes Bubbles and I made were mixed in bowls on the floor of the Student Village. Hence, they are FLOOR CAKES! - Snow. I love snow. I wish it were snowing now and not raining. - My iMac ... and my daddy's iMac. As much as I complain about how moody Joanne is, she's a good computer. Nothing can compare, however, to daddy's new iMac. He's great. - The Wandering Minds kids. They are just the marvelousness embodied. - Carrie. I miss her more than ever. - The CHS kids ... Rachael, Molly, Eric, Kelly, Jenni, Jenny, Travis, Ryan, etc. I love them all. I'm a pretty happy little shish, eh?
